Sydney, Australia

This project for new retail and offices, sits on a long and narrow site in a suburb south of the city. The area is undergoing a transformation from its industrial past but large retail centres dominate the street and private vehicles are the principle means of transport. The building is designed around a long full height atrium space which forms a landscaped crevasse running through the centre. Access from the street is made directly into this space (both vehicular and pedestrian). Densely lined with a screen of planting down the sides of the public circulation areas, and open to the sky, this atrium will create a colourful and scented enclosure of greenery. It will also ensure that natural light extends down through the centre and form part of a broader proposal to naturally ventilate the entire building.
